On Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will start a two-day protest in front of the Ambedkar statue on Red Road, on the other hand, Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee will hold a student-youth rally at Shaheed Minar, Maidan.
The distance between the two program venues is only 1.2 km. On the one hand, there will be a crowd of VIPs along with leaders and ministers in Mamta's dharna, while Trinamool supporters students, and youth will gather in large numbers in Abhishek's meeting.
Mamta's dharna is to start at 12 noon while Abhishek's meeting will start at 1 pm. According to Trinamool sources, the party's national general secretary Abhishek will start his speech by 2 pm. According to political experts, Trinamool is under pressure due to the way the recruitment corruption investigation is going on in the state. Under damage control, the aim of Trinamool is being said to retaliate at the Center by holding demonstrations.
Announcing her program, Mamata Banerjee said that her sit-in was against stopping the financial grants from the Center to the state. She had also made it clear that she would sit on dharna only in the capacity of Chief Minister.
However, other opposition parties, including the BJP, said that Mamata's two-day dharna program is an attempt to divert attention from the hostile environment towards the ruling party regarding corruption admitted in the state. On the other hand, Abhishek Banerjee's rally is being seen as part of an attempt to instill confidence in the organization among students and youth.
